If you're in our school buildings this year, you may see or hear the words, "Be a Charger!" That phrase has significant meaning for our staff and students and we hope for it to trickle down to our patrons as well! Let's dive into where the phrase came from and how you can help promote it at home.
At the beginning of the school year, the High School and Middle School Student Council members came up with words for the letters C-H-A-R-G-E-R-S that they thought embodied our school district and the characteristics that we work to promote. The words were then voted upon by the student body and staff. Here are the words that were chosen:
You may notice these words on the yellow Charger shirts worn by students and staff. To further promote the words at the Cedar Rapids Site, the Seniors break into groups and teach one word per month to the rest of the student body. Posters such as the one above can be seen in the halls of the Spalding site. Teachers at both campuses discuss these words with their students.
What we really ask of everyone in the Riverside community is to be committed, be honest, be ambitious, be responsible, be generous, be extraordinary, be respectful, be successful...just "Be a Charger" and live out these words on a daily basis! Please join us in encouraging our students to reflect on their words and actions and inspire them to exemplify these great characteristics!
